The 2025 civics test practice quiz covers the 128-question list that USCIS uses for anyone who filed Form N-400 on or after 20 October 2025. A round is 20 random questions, the same number the officer can ask. You say the answer, reveal the official USCIS answers with the question number, and mark yourself. Questions you miss are kept in this browser and come back in a review round. This page is for the 2025 list only. If you filed before that date you take the 2008 test, which has its own practice page. The figures come from USCIS pages and PDFs retrieved and checked on 2026-10-26. This page was checked against the official sources on 2026-10-26 and is updated when USCIS changes them.

How to use the 2025 civics test practice

  1. Press Start. A round is 20 random questions.
  2. Read the question and say your answer out loud before you look, as you would to the officer.
  3. Press Reveal. The full USCIS answer list appears with the question number. If the question asks for two or three answers, give that many; an alternative phrasing of a correct answer counts.
  4. Mark your answer as right or wrong, then press Next.
  5. At the end you see your score and the questions you missed. Start the review round to repeat only those.

Your score history and missed questions are stored only in this browser. Questions whose answer depends on where you live or who holds an office carry a note pointing to the USCIS Test Updates page; the quiz never prints office-holder names, so check that page shortly before your interview.

A good routine is two or three short rounds a day rather than one long one: do a round, read the answers you missed, and run the review round the next day. When you can clear a round without a miss, switch to a harder category or to the exam-format mock. Saying the answer out loud matters, because the real test is oral and the officer cannot see what you are thinking. This routine is ours; USCIS publishes the questions and answers only.

How is the 2025 civics test different from the previous version?

The 2025 test uses 128 questions, up from 100 on the 2008 test, and it has more questions in American Government (72 against 57) and American History (46 against 30), while geography, symbols and holidays shrink to a 10-question Symbols and Holidays section.

Section2008 test (100 questions)2025 test (128 questions)
American Government5772
American History3046
Integrated Civics or Symbols and Holidays1310
Total100128

The 2008 list grouped geography, symbols and holidays together as Integrated Civics. The 2025 list uses a separate Symbols and Holidays section of 10 questions (6 symbols, 4 holidays). Twenty questions on the 2025 list carry an asterisk for the 65/20 consideration.

How many questions are on the 2025 citizenship test?

The 2025 list has 128 questions, but the officer does not ask all of them. Up to 20 questions are put to you from the list of 128, one at a time.

  1. The officer asks up to 20 questions.
  2. You must answer 12 correctly to pass, which is 60 percent.
  3. The officer stops once you reach 12 correct answers or 9 incorrect answers.

If a question lists several answers, you only need as many as it asks for. For example, “Name two” means two correct answers.

What do 2025 questions look like?

How this tool works and where the numbers come from

Questions and answers are taken from the USCIS PDFs retrieved 2026-10-26 and shown unchanged; counts by category are computed from them; the pass and stop rules are quoted from USCIS Study for the Test and the Policy Manual.

Check yourself: common questions

Is the citizenship test changing in 2025?

Yes. The 2025 civics test applies to anyone who filed Form N-400 on or after 20 October 2025, and it uses a list of 128 questions instead of 100.

Can I take the citizenship test in Spanish?

Only some applicants may take the civics test in another language: those who qualify for the 50/20 or 55/15 English exemptions, for 65/20, or who have an approved N-648 medical exception from English, may take it in their own language and must bring an interpreter fluent in both English and that language (USCIS, Exceptions and Accommodations, reviewed 01/09/2026). Everyone else takes it in English. Our practice questions are in English only. See Citizenship test in Spanish for the checker.

What do I need to study for the U.S. citizenship test?

Study the list that matches the date your N-400 was filed: the 100-question 2008 list for filings before 20 October 2025, or the 128-question 2025 list for filings on or after that date. Also prepare for the English reading, writing and speaking parts. See the citizenship test study guide for an order to follow.

What are the questions on the U.S. citizenship test 2025?

The full 2025 list is on the 128 civics questions page, grouped into American Government, American History, and Symbols and Holidays. Start a round on this page to practise them in a random mix of 20.

What is the hardest question in the citizenship test?

USCIS publishes no miss rates, so no single question is provably the hardest. The pass mark is 60 percent in both versions (6 of 10 or 12 of 20) and the officer stops once the result is decided. By our own rules, 26 of the 128 questions on the 2025 list and 22 of the 100 on the 2008 list are flagged as harder; see hardest civics test questions.

What else does the USCIS naturalization interview cover beyond civics?

At the interview an officer asks about your application and background, reviews your N-400 answers with you and may ask questions to clarify or confirm them. Unless you qualify for an exception, you also take the English test (reading, writing, and speaking judged during the interview) and the civics test (USCIS, The Naturalization Interview and Test, reviewed 10/31/2025).

Which civics test applies to my application?

Your filing date on Form N-400 decides it, not your interview date. Filings before 20 October 2025 use the 2008 test with 100 questions, and filings on or after that date use the 2025 test with 128 questions.
